A Year in Uruguay

Great pictures! How's your spanish? Do you understand everything when you go to tablados?

My Spanish is okay for everyday use (shopping, catching a bus, etc) but I don't come close to understanding everything at the tablados. If anything is subtle, or if it involves a play on words, I miss it.

Beyond the language, I'm not familiar enough with local politics to follow much of the political humor. All in all, I might understand 10% of the jokes.

While I don't understand much, I really enjoy the spectacle-- the costumes, the make-up, the dancing, and the music.
 

I read in a "you tube" comment that you are becomming a "gringo-murguero".
I am sure when you go back to the states and you are covered in snow next february you will be thinking of "the tablados" "medio i medio" and "los murguistas",wishing it was carnaval all over again.
